First Annual 5-Mile Kayak Race

Forest River Park, 98 West Ave, Salem MA

Saturday, July 19, 2008 (rain date July 20)

First Race starts at 1:00 PM (1300 hours).

open to single person kayaks, canoes, outrigger canoes, and surfskis

The FIVE-MILE FLAT-WATER RACE is in Salem Harbor
and it consists of four straight legs of 1.25 miles each.

The start and finish line will be in the water just off the beach at Forest River Park, Salem.
Spectator visibility will be excellent from both along the shore and by boat in the harbor.

Three classes: Men’s Competition, Women’s Competition and Touring

ENTRY FEE: $25 pre-registration and $35 day of the race.

Registration will start at 11:00 AM on race day.

Skippers meeting 12:30 PM at the boat ramp.

Racers will be allowed to launch off the beach 15 minutes before the start,
with the first race starting at 1:00 PM.

Race Description and Chart of Course

This event is American Canoe Association sanctioned.
All participants must sign the ACA liability waiver at check-in.
If you are not a member of ACA, you will need to purchase a one-day
individual event coverage for $5.

Awards immediately following Races.
First, second and third place medals will be awarded for each class.
All Race results will be posted online at Salem Sound Swim & Fin OceanFest.

In the event of inclement weather, the race will be held on July 20.
Notice will be posted online by 5:00PM (1700 hours), Friday July 18.
