Salem Sound Coastwatch (SSCW) works to protect and improve our North Shore environment, especially the beaches, coastal waters, salt marshes, rivers, and  ponds that make our North Shore communities so special. It is our ongoing mission to keep the waters in the Salem Sound watershed healthy and safe.

Thanks to Salem Sound Coastwatch’s efforts, our coastal waters and rivers are cleaner and safer for swimming and boating. Yet there is still much to be done.

Productive shellfish beds are closed; lobster and fish nurseries are threatened; invasive plants are menacing our salt marshes; and runoff from rainwater is carrying pollutants into the water.

Sponsor SSCW’s annual Race for Salem Sound, which consists of two outdoor events: Swim & Fin, an open water swim August 18 and the
Coastal 5K Run for the Beach! September 16.

Proceeds will be used to analyze water samples, train volunteers to monitor beaches and salt marshes, identify and monitor invasive species, and more.
